I start by mentioning a terrific article from Grantland I read today. Written by their TV writer Andy Greenwald, he delves into whether Jimmy Fallon’s comedy is cutting edge. So, if you’re a fan of Jimmy Fallon and Jerry Seinfeld, yes he mainly talks about Seinfeld, you should read this article. http://grantland.com/features/is-jimmy-fallon-really-comedys-new-cutting-edge/. I don’t always agree with some of the things Greenwald writes, but he’s spot on with Jimmy here. After three weeks, any nerves about what the Leno audience will “think” has gone out the window, and he’s 100% doing his show the way he’s been doing it for five years, and it manages to put a smile on faces every night.
MONOLOGUE: Any time Jimmy does
his Adam Sandler impression - greatness.
He dropped it couple times tonight in his banter with Steve Higgins.
Interesting fact on Steve Higgins: On top of his announcing duties on the Tonight
Show, he’s a producer on Saturday Night
Live. On the old Late Night show, we saw Higgins absent on Wednesday nights, due to SNL’s table read for
the live show Saturday.
We’re three Wednesday’s in and Higgins hasn’t left the show. Just goes to show how
much Higgins respects Jimmy and the brand that is the Tonight Show.
I do have a question for you though… Are
you ready for Snugglefest 2014 this weekend? Kissy Face Emoji…Kissy Face

Anytime Higgins does sound effects with
Jimmy diong animations is hilarious. Why are fart noises so funny? Adult
Lunchables!?! Are you kidding me! They better have pizza! Can we all agree
those pepperoni’s were delicious!? Lunchables for Adults, Pope Francis

My goodness, Jimmy is on fire tonight
with the truck bit with Higgins doing backup sound effects. Tonight Show Screen
Grabs. This bit is, again, an opportunity for comedy to come from people and
not from writers. I also think this is a strong suite for Jimmy to really
showcase his personality and how funny the guy is with his in-between screen
grab lines. I think most of all Jimmy isn’t afraid to make fun of himself
and is down for pretty much anything, like the Polar Bear Plunge, and tonight,
putting on a mustache and hat, to do a side by side of his doppelgänger. Tonight Show Screengrabs: Half Off

GUESTS: Annette Bening may be the first
guest Jimmy’s had where the interview is more serious than goofy, but it also
shows the respect Jimmy has for Bening who is a tremendous actress. So after a
semi-serious interview, the only thing to do next is play flip cup. Bening
plays along before the break and says she plays flip cup all the time with her
kids.
FLIP CUP: Watching Jimmy and
Bening play flip was hilarious, especially Bening throwing the cups at Jimmy at
the end, showing of fun this show is. Watch Here: Flip Cup with Annette Bening
More importantly, watch Higgins go a
perfect 4-4 when he was on a team with Matthew McConaughey and Jimmy and Gisele
Bundchen were on a team a few months ago. Folks, Higgins has played flip cup
before. http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/video/flip-cup-with-gisele-bundchen-and-matthew-mcconaughey/n44768/
I have never seen The Walking Dead, but
Norman Reedus seems like a pretty cool dude. Heck, he has an action figure!
MUSICAL GUEST: The Avett Brothers had a
beautiful performance per the usual on Jimmy Fallon. They make good music.
Clearly, since they’ve opened for Dave Matthews Band, and if Dave Matthews
likes you enough to open for him, you’ve done well.
Thursday Night should be amazing…two words:
Water War.
